Viewers of Fox’s “The X Factor” apparently got the wrong impression from a “Judges’ Homes” segment on Wednesday’s episode, prompting the show to issue a clarification of sorts, TheWrap.com reports.

The segment gave the impression that it was showcasing the homes of Simon Cowell and Britney Spears, among others. But a TMZ.com report accused the show of faking the bit by substituting other homes — including one belonging to Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees.

“Representatives for the show admitted Thursday that the residences presented as the homes of ‘X Factor’ judges Simon Cowell and Britney Spears are ‘not necessarily’ their actual residences,” TheWrap reports.

Reps for the show told the website: "The ‘Judges Homes’ part of the show is filmed in a house of the judges’ choice, not necessarily the judges’ own homes."

The piece adds: “The statement comes on the heels of a report from TMZ that ‘Cowell’s’ house is actually the Miami home of New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, while Spears actually lives in Calabasas, Calif., and not Malibu, as the segment suggested.”

The show has a track record of taking liberties with the facts, the report notes: “This wouldn’t be the first time that ‘The X Factor’ has been accused of distorting the facts. As TheWrap reported last year, the show strongly implied that contestant Geo Godley had dropped his pants and exposed himself to the audience. But an audience member said he was actually wearing a thong. (As the episode was aired, a big red ‘X’ appeared over Godley’s groin.)”
