Canceled AMC Series May Get a New Season After All

A drama series that was canceled earlier this year by AMC is close to a deal for a third season with the help of streaming service Netflix, reports Deadline.com. The series is “The Killing,” which was canceled two and a half months ago by AMC.

AMC would get the first window on a third season of the mystery drama, the piece adds. The deal would be the result of an effort by the show’s producer, Fox TV Studios, to keep the series going. A strong pitch for the third season from the show’s developer, Veena Sud, helped the deal along.

AMC would share the costs of "The Killing" with Netflix, and the series, which has had the cast locked in for the third season, could restart production in February.

The split-window deal is similar to one that worked for "Friday Night Lights," which was close to cancellation after its second season until NBC partnered with DirecTV to keep it going.

The deal would help AMC with its programming, given that it’s facing the loss of "Breaking Bad" and might only have two additional seasons of "Mad Men." Additionally, the future of "Hell on Wheels" is uncertain after the departure of its showrunner.
