The Oscar-winning director of the 1982 hit “An Officer and a Gentleman,” set in Naval flight school, is revisiting Naval airspace for a new TV project. Taylor Hackford — whose impressive string of feature films also includes “Ray,” “Dolores Claiborne” and “The Devil’s Advocate” — is co-creating a new show for the CW called "Norfolk," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project focuses on the lives of loves of characters living at the Norfolk Naval Station. Hackford will executive produce with Sera Gamble, best known for "Rizzoli & Isles." Gamble will write the script. Bill Haber, also with "Rizzoli," will also executive produce.

Hackford’s last military effort on television was "E-Ring." He won an Oscar in 1979 for best short film, live action, for “Teenage Father.”
