Netflix subscribers watch 11% fewer minutes of television each day than people who don’t subscribe to the streaming service, reports Multichannel News, citing a report from Nielsen.

Netflix users watched an average of 246 minutes of TV per day in the second quarter of 2012, compared with 276 minutes of TV for consumers who don’t get the service, the piece notes.

The report found that overall, TV viewing in the second quarter declined about five minutes per day, or about 1.9%, from 2011, across all television households. TV households are also shrinking, with 1.37 million fewer TV homes in the second quarter of 2012. The U.S. now has 114.3 million TV homes.

Consumers are also using mobile devices while watching TV. About 40% of tablet and smartphone owners use their devices at least once a day while watching TV, the story notes.
