Video: TV Chef Fires Back After Brutal Restaurant Review -- Blasts NY Times Food Critic, Saying He's Trying to Make a Name for Himself by 'Going After a Celebrity Chef Who's Not a New Yorker' LA Times, NY Times; Today Show

After a New York Times review that’s being called the worst restaurant review in the paper’s history, popular Food Network host Guy Fieri is firing back.

Fieri went on damage control to respond to the brutal review of his Times Square eatery Guy's American Kitchen & Bar, appearing on NBC’s "Today" and accusing the reviewer of having "another agenda," reports the Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker.

Fieri commented on the review by Pete Wells during a special appearance on the morning show Thursday, saying: "It's a great way to make a name for yourself -- go after a celebrity chef who is not a New Yorker."

He added that he takes the food at the restaurant seriously, even though he doesn't work in-house. "I stand by my food," Fieri said.

Fieri also released a statement to the media. "I normally do not respond to reviews or critics, however, given the tone of Pete’s piece, it’s clear to me that he went into my restaurant with his mind already made up. That’s unfortunate. I take comments from patrons, fans and visitors very seriously, and if there is ever a problem with our service, we’ll fix it," the statement read.

As previously reported, Wells’ review included a series of antagonistic questions for Fieri, such as, "Hey, did you try that blue drink, the one that glows like nuclear waste? The watermelon margarita? Any idea why it tastes like some combination of radiator fluid and formaldehyde?"
