Twitter Comes Clean About Password Gaffe TheWrap

Twitter revealed Thursday that it had accidentally reset many users' passwords after a few accounts had been hijacked, reports TheWrap.com. On Wednesday night, the company inadvertently reset a "larger number" of accounts than had actually been hacked.

An email notified users whose passwords had been altered. It read, "Twitter believes that your account may have been compromised by a website or service not associated with Twitter. We've reset your password to prevent others from accessing your account."

On the website, Twitter wrote: "In this case, we unintentionally reset passwords of a larger number of accounts, beyond those that we believed to have been compromised. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused."
