Hacker Group Strikes Again — and This Time It Targets a Site That Usually Issues Its Own Fake News

Just a day after reports surfaced that a hacker group calling itself the Syrian Electronic Army had hacked E! Online, the group struck again, this time hitting the Twitter feed of the parody news organization The Onion.

The Onion had its Twitter feed broken into by the group on Monday, The New York Times reports.

The group posted a number of anti-Israel messages to The Onion’s 5 million or so Twitter followers. Another message read, "UN retracts report of Syrian chemical weapon use: Lab tests confirm it is Jihadi body odor.”

Besides E! Online, which we reported yesterday, other media sites that have been hacked by the group include the Associated Press, CBS and NPR.

The Onion deleted the fake posts and posted a satirical article about the event, under the headline, "Onion Twitter Password Changed To OnionMan77: ‘That Ought To Do It,’ Company Sources Confirm.”

  1. Actually a pretty good line from the Syrian Army. Most of their defectors drive cabs here so it’s right on target. I think the individual that posted that was probably trying to get a job there. Couldn’t blame him at all.
