Veteran rocker David Bowie sparked a bit of a scandal with his latest music video, which you can see below. Newsday reports that the clip for “The Next Day” was pulled for a period of time from YouTube, and returned with an adults-only rating from the online streaming site.

“The video features actors Marion Cotillard and Gary Oldman, and shows Bowie as a Christ-like figure performing in a bar populated with religious figures and scantily clad women,” the story reports. “Cotillard plays a woman with a stigmata and is seen with blood bursting from her wounds, while Oldman is a priest who shows interest in Cotillard’s character and takes issue with Bowie’s.”

Reuters reported that the clip was removed from YouTube briefly, with a statement posted indicating that the video violated the site’s terms of service. “The video was then restored to the site but viewing is restricted to people ages 18 and older,” Newsday reports.

The report adds: “Why the outrage? Based on watching the video, it’s likely the unholy combination of religious imagery and sex — for example, the video features lusty priests and a woman in bridal veil wearing nothing else except nipple coverings. (Really.)”

Vevo reportedly continues to post the video without restrictions. And you can watch it here:

  1. I am surprised that it got this rating. I wonder if they ever did http://www.certifiedappliancelv.com/air-conditioning-repair to help the actors keep cool. They look pretty sweaty.
