YouTube Set to Roll Out Subscription Channels

YouTube will start selling paid subscriptions to channels over the next few weeks, in a move to compete with traditional pay-TV packages, reports Bloomberg.

Each channel will be available for $1.99 per month, although prices could vary. The platform will help the Google company generate revenue on top of its current offerings of one-time TV or movie rentals.

The plan comes just days after Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said YouTube had already won in the battle with TV, as previously reported.

The paid channels will offer children’s programming, entertainment, music and other topic areas, according to The New York Times. Several dozen will be offered at the start.
