USA Today Reports 'Rupert Murdoch-Wendi Deng Divorce Story Gets Juicier' with Oddly Worded Statement from Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair USA Today
"Curiouser and curiouser. Day Two of the Rupert Murdorch-Wendi Deng divorce story turned juicier when ex-British prime minister and Deng pal Tony Blair got dragged into it."
So writes reporter Maria Puente on the website of USA Today.
The connection with Blair, according to the article, is speculation that "Deng, 44, had an affair with Blair, 60, who happens to be godfather of [Murdoch and Deng's] two young daughters, Grace, 11, and Chloe, 9.
"Blair, the former New Labor PM who was embraced politically by the conservative Tory/Republican Murdoch when he was in power, denied the claim through a spokesman today. But the way the denial was worded led to more speculation."
Here' s the denial, according to the story: "Today,The Hollywood Reporter asked and got an answer from Blair's London office [about the speculation.] 'If you are asking if they are having an affair, the answer is no,' said the anonymous spokesman. That set off more tweeting about why the spokesman used the present tense instead of the past tense."
As TVWeek previously reported, Murdoch 82, filed for divorce Thursday, June 13, 2013 from wife Wendi Deng Murdoch.
