A new TV movie delivered a big audience to one cable channel, ranking as the No. 1 TV movie of the year to date. Disney Channel reported that "Teen Beach Movie," which premiered Friday, July 19, at 8 p.m., pulled in 8.4 million total viewers to rank as the day’s top television program.

"A family viewing event, the movie also attracted a solid adult audience, delivering nearly 1.6 million/1.5 rating in adults 18-49, standing as the #1 telecast in the time period across broadcast and cable networks. The song, sand and surf fest, set inside a retro beach party movie, is part of the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise," the channel reported.

Additionally, the channel’s WATCH Disney Channel service had its most watched week ever, with the channel crediting the movie with delivering more than 550,000 views. The service is available to customers of Comcast, Cablevision, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Midcontinent Communications, AT&T U-verse, Verizon FiOS and other multichannel distributors.

"Among major youth demos, ‘Teen Beach Movie’ handily became the #1 cable TV telecast of the year across kids 2-11 (4.6 million/11.6 rating), kids 6-11 (3.9 million/16.5 rating) and tweens 9-14 (3.4 million/14.3 rating) and #1 scripted TV telecast overall, behind only ‘Super Bowl XLVII,’" Disney Channel reported.

The huge turnout for "Teen Beach Movie" helped its leadout, a preview of the sitcom "Liv & Maddie" (9:45 p.m.), get off to a strong start, with 5.8 million total viewers, 3.2 million kids 2-11, 2.7 million kids 6-11 and 2.4 million tweens, the channel reported. The show, which has its regular time slot premiere set for Sunday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m., ranked as the network’s No. 2 series debut of all time in kids 6-11 and its most watched in total viewers in two and a half years, since "Shake It Up" in November 2010.
