LGBT Roles Drop in Prime Time

The broadcast networks’ prime-time lineups include fewer roles featuring lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) characters, TV Guide reports, citing a report from GLAAD.

LGBT characters make up 3.3% of regulars on scripted series this season, when considering the five broadcast networks. That’s down from last year’s 4.4%, which represented a record high.

"Though the number of LGBT characters dropped this season, shows like ‘The Fosters,’ with an interracial female couple raising a family, and characters like Unique on ‘Glee’ have not only moved the conversation about LGBT people forward, but are also a hit with audiences," said GLAAD’s Wilson Cruz in a statement.
