CBS is moving forward with a comedy project that will star one of the main cast members of the long-running NBC hit "Friends." Deadline.com reports that CBS gave a pilot order to a reboot of the classic television series “The Odd Couple” from Matthew Perry.

Perry is slated to star in, co-write and executive produce the project, in which he will play the messy Oscar Madison.

Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” first premiered on Broadway in 1965, with Walter Matthau as Oscar and Art Carney as the neat-freak Felix. It led to a 1968 movie starring Matthau, with Jack Lemmon as Felix. Then, ABC debuted the TV series in 1970, with Jack Klugman as Oscar and Tony Randall as Felix.

“For Perry, doing ‘The Odd Couple’ has been a dream 34 years in the making,” the story notes. Perry has said he had dreamed of playing Oscar ever since he saw the movie when he was 10 years old.
