An HBO miniseries is replacing Robert De Niro in the lead role. Deadline.com reports that De Niro exited the pay-cable channel's project “Criminal Justice,” which was a passion project of the late James Gandolfini.
De Niro stepped in to succeed Gandolfini after the actor’s death, but now De Niro is out because of scheduling conflicts, the piece notes.
The role of Jack Stone will now be played by John Turturro, known for his roles in films such as “Quiz Show," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?," "Barton Fink” and “The Big Lebowski.”
The project tracks Stone, a New York City attorney, who takes on a case involving a Pakistani man accused of murdering a girl on the Upper West Side.
