A well-known TV actor known mainly as a sitcom star has joined the HBO rock ’n’ roll drama from executive producers Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger. TheWrap.com reports that the pilot has added Ray Romano to the cast.

Romano will play Zak Yankovich, described as the confidante of Bobby Cannavale’s Richie Finestra, a music industry executive, and the promotions head at the record label where they both work.

“The project, which has the working title ‘The Long Play,’ is set in 1970s New York and explores the drug- and sex-fueled music business as disco and punk were breaking out, through the eyes of record producer Finestra,” the story notes.

The network hopes to start production this summer.

Romano is best-known for his Emmy-winning role on the long-running CBS comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond," and for the TNT series "Men of a Certain Age."
