It’s On: Larry King Pushes Piers Morgan’s Buttons — And Morgan Is Apparently Tired of Hearing It

Larry King fired a salvo at his CNN replacement Piers Morgan, critiquing the man who was hired to take over King's 9 p.m. time slot on the cable network. TVNewser reports that King spoke out on Howard Stern’s radio show, criticizing CNN's decision to hire Morgan.

“I thought they made a mistake in the Piers hire,” King said. “I thought it was a mistake, one, to hire a Britisher in prime time and, two, I thought that he made himself too much part of the show.”

Morgan responded on Twitter, writing, “Hey Larry @kingsthings — you don’t need to KEEP bitching about me. It’s over. Relax.”

Morgan added in a subsequent tweet, “And FYI … there is no such word as ‘Britisher.’ But then research & facts were never your strong point were they, Brooklyner?”

That wasn't the end of it, either, as Morgan followed up with this tweet: "Always tried to be respectful to @kingsthings — but he's been a constant poisonous twerp towards me for 3 years and I'm bored with it."

Morgan's show ended in March after being a ratings disappointment for CNN. But the network also struggled with diminishing ratings in the time slot toward the end of King's tenure.

The Huffington Post notes that Morgan added in yet another tweet: "As for our respective egos, one of us changed his name legally to 'King' and it wasn't me. So get over yourself @kingsthings."

"When asked how he felt about Morgan's departure, King told Stern that it was like seeing 'your mother-in-law [go] over the cliff in your new car,'" the Huffington Post article reports. The piece adds: "Morgan also went after King over ratings and the time King confused Ringo Starr with George Harrison."

The HuffPost piece also notes: "King has been less than enthusiastic about Morgan in the past. He's suggested that Morgan may have been 'oversold' to CNN, called the British personality 'an acceptable host' and said that Morgan's former show was just not his style."
