Report: Katie Couric in Talks to Rejoin NBC’s ‘Today’

Katie Couric is reportedly in early discussions to rejoin NBC’s “Today,” according to the New York Post. “Couric is a contender to sit in and co-host the No. 2 morning show while Savannah Guthrie is on maternity leave, sources told The Post,” the story notes.

Guthrie is five months pregnant and is expected to take a leave this summer. While the talks are for a temporary role for Couric, it could potentially lead to a larger job if ratings see an improvement, the piece adds.

Couric first sat in the co-anchor chair on “Today” in 1991, when she sat in for Deborah Norville, and later become a full-time anchor when Norville didn’t return. Couric left “Today” in 2006.

Couric has an agreement to serve as “global anchor” for Yahoo!, and it’s possible a deal could involve her work for the Internet company, the story says. Her syndicated show “Katie” will end in June.

NBC didn’t comment, the piece notes.
