Weather Channel Renews ‘History’ Series

The Weather Channel has ordered 14 more episodes of Towers Productions’ original series “When the Weather Changed History.”

The drama revisits catastrophic natural events of the past based on stock footage and first-hand accounts. The Jan. 6 premiere, a chronicle of the space shuttle Challenger disaster, drew record ratings for the network with 21 million cumulative viewers for the week.

“We are extremely pleased with the success of the first season of the show and the decision by the Weather Channel to renew,” executive producer Jonathan Towers said in a statement today. Towers also produced “Storm Stories” for the cable channel.

“When the Weather Changed History” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. and again at 11 on TWC.
