Vin Di Bona Productions has acquired the rights for Nippon TV’s “Masquerade,” a Japanese competition program that re-creates situations and illusions using strategically dressed participants.
“Like ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos,’ [‘Masquerade’ is] a show that allows families, friends and co-workers to create and have fun together,” said Vin Di Bona, chairman and executive producer of the company. “This show strikes me as being the most original concept in television that I’ve seen since ‘Home Videos.’ It’s already become a cultural phenomenon in Japan and I see that potential [in the U.S.]”
Mr. Di Bona’s company produces ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
“Masquerade” features groups of contestants re-creating scenarios, such as athletic events, but incorporates people dressed to blend with a background, giving them the illusion of invisibility and allowing them to manipulate props and characters to seem as they float in mid-air and move in slow motion.
The series has been on the air in Japan since 1979.
