ESPN Ups 2 Communications Veterans

ESPN has promoted two 28-year veterans of its communications department to senior executive positions.

Rosa Gatti will assume the position of senior vice president, communications counsel and corporate outreach. In her new role, she will manage ESPN’s V Foundation and communications outreach initiatives. She joined the communications department at ESPN in 1980 after holding positions as sports information director at Villanova and Brown universities.

Chris LaPlaca becomes senior VP of corporate communications, overseeing external and internal communications efforts for ESPN. Mr. LaPlaca also joined the company in 1980 as a communications representative after graduating from college the year before.

“Rosa and Chris have worked together since 1980 in building and leading our highly honored communications efforts,” said ESPN President George Bodenheimer in a statement Thursday. “In addition to Rosa’s communications leadership, she has grown our corporate outreach and V Foundation efforts, which are making a significant impact and will be expanded worldwide. Chris has earned wide respect both inside and outside the company and we are pleased to have him lead our communications efforts.”
