TNT Lines Up NASCAR Sponsors

This year’s “Wide Open Coverage” NASCAR race telecast on TNT will be sponsored by Coke Zero, Coors Light, HP, Papa John’s, Sprint, Subway, Toyota, U.S. Army, Viagra and Warner Bros. The telecast will air during the prime-time Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola race from Daytona International Speedway July 5.

TNT’s telecast will provide continuous race coverage free of national commercial breaks. Instead of national ads, animated sponsor messages, branded content and on-screen graphic elements will be used.

“Wide Open Coverage is a truly unique television concept that provides sponsors with the opportunity to reach the audience in a new and different way while giving fans more racing action. We're thrilled to bring back this exciting race presentation and continue to offer our advertising partners innovative concepts that showcase their brand and tell their story with dynamic flair,” Trish Frohman, executive VP of Turner Sports sales, said in a statement.

Coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET with pre-race show “NASCAR Live” and “Allstate Countdown to Green.” The race will start at 8 p.m., with the final race from Chicagoland Speedway slated to be televised July 12.

JP:

This onscreen commercial crap sucks. I hate it.
Try this during a ball game and see what happens.
Thanks for ruining the race for me.

Debra Arsenault:

I cant beleive any company could ruin a Nascar Race. Congratulations as I long time fan I can honestly say I'd rather do anything but watch this bizaar attempt of advertisement. I agree it sucks

Jason:

I can honestly say that after watching Nascar since 1990, this is the worst coverage I have ever seen. The whole thing is one giant commercial. Way to sell out NASCAR and TNT!

JK:

TNT's "wide open coverage" of, well, let's say, "The Firecracker 400" at Daytona was complete "zero". A disaster. It was so intolerable, I had to switch it off around lap 35 or so and I never turn off NASCAR. What a horrible presentation. I couldn't keep up with the actual race because of the distractions. How is that innovative? How is that effective?

Trish Frohman, executive VP of Turner Sports Sales should be fired. In her quote she states, "giving fans more racing action" which, it turns out, was a complete lie.

Life in the US just keeps getting worse but he biggest travesty is that this kind of thing is funded completely by the insanely out-of-control cost of living today.

Yes, advertising is an unbridled tax incorporated into cost of all necessary goods whether they are advertised or not. The price floor is raised even for the most generic of them partly because of advertising and in return, greed mongers like Frohman shovel this kind of garbage into the troughs of the American television audience who, in this day and age, pay outrageously for their Wheaties, can barely afford cable and certainly have no influence over the behemoth anymore.

james:

TNT sucks on Nascar coverage

jack:

I AGREE WILL ALL THE ABOVE COMMENTS...IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS MUTEING OUT WHEN A COMMERCIAL CAME ON.....AT 2 DIFF. TIMES THE COMMERCIAL SCREEN CAME DOWN ONLY TO GO TO A LOCAL BREAK 10 SECS. LATER....IT WAS DISGUSTING, AND I CAN'T WAIT TIL FOX GETS COVERAGE FOR THE WHOLE YEAR

JLOW:

I already have picture in picture that I choose NOT to use. I agree - FOX should have it for the season. TNT - terrible coverage.

T errible
N ascar
T elecast

Mike:

I don't know who to be more mad at. TNT for showing more advertisments than race laps or NASCAR for letting them They must know they're losing viewers like myself who couldn't watch with frustration anymore!!

Fred:

Congrats to tnt for setting the world record in having the most commercials during a sporting event. Too many commercials to watch the race. Had to turn it off. No way am I even going to attempt to watch next weeks race. I wouldn't see anything but commericals.

Cynda:

We were irrate at the TNT coverage that made the commercials the main event, and the race something you tried to follow in the background. It was insulting to our intelligence. We will not, repeat, WILL NOT purchase anything from the companies that have gone along with this atrocious from of advertising. Nor will we be wasting our time watching a perpetual commercial with the Chicagoland race in the background this week. We will spend our time doing something WORTHWHILE and tune into NASCAR Victory Lane on SpeedTV to get an unblocked view of the highlights of the race. We are people who make it a point to watch NASCAR all weekend long. The fact that we will not watch NASCAR oin TNT shows just how offended we are.

Jordan:

I think TNT is way better than Fox and ESPN. The reason is the TNT cameras are really good and the camera work they do it is auesome. The wide open coverage was fun to watch abd Bill actually says how long will they be in commerical. The FOX camera shots are so boring they don't even turn and they don't go to every camera angle. Mike Joy, Larry Mac and every else in FOX besides Darrel and Matt brag about their station. I can't stand it. ESPN messed up the whole season last year, it didn't seem like the 2nd half. Back then NBC and TNT was much better with the 2nd half. Ill stick with TNT.

S Monroe:

This was the WORST broadcasting of a race we have ever seen!!!! What in the world is NASCAR doing??? TNT ruined our night! What started out as a Nascar party turned into a night of listening to the radio...we too turned of the TV less then an hour into the race! BOOOOOOOOO on you TNT!!!!!!!!!! What an insult to our intelligience!!!!!!

R Fisher:

I never miss a Nascar race on tv!!! Last week I turned off at lap 50 and never went back...! ALL of the above comments echo my feelings exactly. Until you stop insulting me with the continous adds, long distance camera shots, and inane "play by play",I WON'T BE BACK..!!!

Nascar Fan:

NASCAR on TNT is unwatchable. They don't show the race. They show a bunch of morons doing lame magic acts, wearing ugly ties, and engaging in childish banter.

This sort of stupidity is fine on Hee-Haw, but when I watch NASCAR, I want to see a car race. Apparently TNT hasn't figured that out.

I'm just sorry that Kyle Petty has destroyed any hopes he ever had of of a past-racing career.

Jordan:

I don't believe that. There just trying to have fun with us. I thought it was kind of funny with the tie and magic. Guess who is comming now, the irriating ESPN and ABC guys. Chicago was the final race for TNT and I said noooooo don't go I don't wan't ESPN to come and TNT to leave!!! The TNT cameras were really fun to watch this season but with ESPN the fun will go away, you can barely hear the cars go by the camera and they are always zooming it in and that gets annoying to me. TNT never does that and that and thats good. It sucks that there only doing six/6 races instead of the whole 2nd half.

I got a question, are there TNT fans out there? I hope so.
