Tyra, Ellen, ‘Light’ Winners at Daytime Emmys
Tyra Banks and Ellen DeGeneres were among early winners at the Daytime Emmy awards.
Ms. Banks, receiving a Daytime Emmy award in the informative talk show category, offered the audience at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles advice on how to handle detractors.
“I want you to tell them to kiss your dimply, flat, juicy, bootilicious, skinny, jiggly, saggy, fat ass,” she said echoing a memorable speech given during her show.
Ms. Banks beat out the syndicated “The Dr. Phil Show” and PBS’ “A Place of Our Own” for the win at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. The informative talk show category is among the newer categories at the awards.
“The Tyra show is a different show every single day,” she said backstage to reporters.
Within the talk show host category, Ms. DeGeneres walked away with her fourth win in the category.
Ms. DeGeneres has dominated the host category for the past three years. She thanked her staff and her romantic partner, Portia De Rossi.
Actress Gina Tognoni and Tom Pelphrey from CBS’ “Guiding Light” picked up two other awards, supporting actress in a drama and younger actor in a drama, respectively.
The 71-year running “Light” recently converted over to a more realistic style of shooting in order to modernize the show and streamline production. The conversion has been met with some resistance from fans.
“Change is uncomfortable but it’s exciting,” Ms. Tognoni said backstage to press.

Good for Tyra. I think she has a lot of class. I only hope she stays real, and doesn't develop a huge ego like Oprah.

I was glad to see General Hospital win for the Emmys it was nominated for. I have been a fan for many years, but I do think they were left out of too many categories.

First of all, let me first say that Ellen DeGeneres is (as my late Grandma Venus used to say) are "Good People." I love you for "long time."
