XETV San Diego Becomes CW Affil Aug. 1

XETV-TV will become San Diego’s CW affiliate effective Aug. 1, the same day Tribune-owned KSWB trades its CW affiliation to become a Fox Broadcasting affiliate.

The announcement of the switch, which had been expected, was posted on the Grupo Televisa-owned Web site.

XETV VP and General Manager Richard Doutre said in the notice that the station’s logo and prime-time lineup is the only thing that will change with the affiliation switch.

The station’s posting quoted The CW Chief Operating Officer John Maatta as being “thrilled” to be affiliated with XETV. “This station has a huge local identity, which perfectly complements The CW network,” he said.

XETV, which was one of Fox Broadcasting’s founding affiliates, is licensed in Tijuana, just across the border from San Diego in Mexico.
