Cable channel IFC inked a deal with independent music resource guide Pitchfork Media to be the TV distributor for Pitchfork’s catalogue of Web videos.
The videos come from Pitchfork.tv and will include live performances, interviews, documentary segments and music videos.
IFC said it will air 10 “uncut interstitial shows each week” from Pitchfork.tv’s library of content. The programming will run under a new programming block called “Pitchfork Airwaves on IFC.”
Pitchfork is well-known as a source for reviews and information on indie music. The deal with IFC is the latest effort by a traditional media company to bring Web-based content onto the TV. A deal with Pitchfork may be a smart bet for this type of convergence because of Pitchfork’s reputation as a music tastemaker.
