Bad Economy a Boon for Fox News Channel Ratings

How good was the bad news about the U.S. economy last week? Bad/good enough to attract enough viewers to push Fox News Channel to the position of second most-viewed cable network in prime time, behind only ESPN, which set a cable record with its Monday Night Football coverage of the Dallas Cowboys' victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

FNC, with a major assist from “Hannity & Colmes’” interview with Sarah Palin, the GOP VP candidate and Alaska governor, averaged 2.75 million total viewers for the 8-11 p.m. block the week of Sept. 15, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. (ESPN’s average was 4.46 million total viewers.)

CNN ranked eighth in prime time for the week with an average 1.36 million viewers, just ahead of Arts & Entertainment (1.35 million viewers).

MSNBC, which also benefited from continuing strong numbers from its new “The Rachel Maddow Show,” ranked 15th with an average 1.92 million total viewers, just ahead of HGTV (1.1 million viewers).

For total day, FNC ranked fifth for the week with an average 1.29 million viewers, ahead of USA Network (1.16 million viewers). CNN ranked 11th for the week in total-day with an average 803,000 viewers, ahead of A&E (697,000 viewers). MSNBC was 25th for the week with 529,000 viewers, ahead of the Food Network (521,000 viewers).

So sad that more people are being brainwashed by Olbermann and his lesbian sidekick Rachel Maddow. Here's to the upcoming liberal trainwreck ruining MSDNC for good.

Hannity, You are my voice. You keep saying what needs to be said. There are those who say they don't yet know enough about Obama but it's the things we already know, and seem to be ignoring, that concern me. But you're there doing one heck of a great job so keep it up and I may be able to keep my sanity. I love your Bulldog mentality! For all your fans in W.Va. Keep it up. We never get tired of your digging for the truth. We'll be here wishing you the best.

To Fox Watcher:
Your comment is totally inappropriate. What difference does it make to the political situation whether Rachel Maddow is a lesbian or not?
If you don't like her politics, say so and be done with it. Leave personal stuff out of it.

I don't get how CNN is 8th with 1.36 million viewers, while MSNBC is 15th with 1.92 million. I'm no whiz at math, but isn't 1.92 more than 1.36?

I would like to know is the 700 billion being given dollar for dollar or is it a persentage?

Why can't some of the CEO's pay back some of their commissions?
And why are some still receiving income?

I feel if it's a persentage (example 25cents on a dollar) It could help in the future for the Gov. to make us make more money.

Why are main stream meter not letting the people know that congress has been sitting on this??

I heard on radio that Obama was in Florida and was booed...TV never showed it?????

to Angus Parvo: The difference is that the CNN ranking is for prime-time ratings, while the MSNBC ranking is for total-day ratings. They're two different lists. Obviously total viewership is going to be more for an entire day than for part of a day, so MSNBC's raw number is higher than CNN's. But comparing apples to apples, CNN was 8th in prime-time, while MSNBC was 15th in total-day. I hope that clarifies it for you.

I'm surprised that CNN ratings are not higher, but MSNBC sucks bottom period. What do you expect with an anchor like Chris Obama Olberman and that scum Rachel Barack Maddow.
Keep rock'in Fox! Fair And Balanced.
