Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios’ MGM HD signed an agreement to be carried by Bright House Networks, giving the high-definition movie channel access to an additional 2.4 million U.S. households.
The agreement with Bright House expands MGM HD’s reach to central Florida, Indianapolis and Detroit, among other regions.
Bright House is the No. 6 U.S. cable operator behind Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Charter, Cox and Cablevision.
MGM launched the channel in October via DirecTV, making it available to the U.S. satellite television leader’s 17 million subscribers.
By the end of last year, MGM had converted about a quarter of its library of about 4,100 films to high definition and was planning to convert another 2,500 by early 2010, said Douglas Lee, executive vice president of worldwide digital media at MGM, in a January interview.
MGM is owned by a group that includes Providence Equity, Sony and Comcast.
