Studio, CW in Talks for New ‘Melrose Place’

First “90210,” now ... “Melrose”?

The CW and CBS Paramount Network Television are “exploring” the possibility of creating a new version of “Melrose Place,” according to a rep for the studio. “Melrose Place,” of course, was the hugely successful spinoff from Fox’s “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

There’s been buzz about a possible “Melrose” revival from the moment the CW picked up the new “90210” last spring. But the early ratings success for the new ZIP show has turned such speculation into reality.

The CBS Paramount spokeswoman was quick to stress that the talks about reviving “Melrose” have just begun. There are no writers or showrunners attached, she said.

Still, at least one key component of the original “Melrose”—special guest star Heather Locklear—is currently available for hire.

OK, they want to revive the past hits, with the results not as sparlking. The reason I say this is because the original shows were the trendsetters. The newbies are followers. Melrose broke the "glass cieling," as the new shows just are there. The originality is lost, the energy of the show is lost, with the new ones.

I also have to wonder... is this why we heard from Heather Locklear, via jail issue? Heck, if it's good for Whitney Houston to go to "rehab" when she has new items for sale, it should be fine for the rest of them. But it doesn't sit well with us who know marketing well. Its a cheap ploy for publicity, not to metnion phony-looking.

Thirdly... CBS video needs to make sure to clean up its releases on the older show. Season 5 isn't on the market... then other seasons following. This show coming out as new, would bring this fact to life, for many forum posters. There is a call for other charactors, as Brook, Cooper, etc. Don't just stop at Season 4.

Yes, I know my Melrose... As one can tell. I felt the original show had energy, gumption and spice. That's what kept it going on the fledgling network. I'm hardly convinced it can be duplicated, while reaching as many audiences as it did. 18-49 females were not the only one's who watched it.

I'm totally against trying to revive it, as a new show and as cheaply as "90210" is now. I feel it just won't work.

The perfect gig for Heather... "this is your brain on drugs" campaign, from that "Drug-Free America" coalition.

If this isn't a sign of the apocolypse, I don't know what is.

Knight Rider, 90210, a rehash of X Files (aka Fringe)... isn't there an ounce of creativity left in Hollywood????

OK I stand corrected, it's "apocalypse".... the thought of lispy Billy, crabby Amanda and that courtyard fried my brain. :)

How about "Married with Grandchildren"? You could also do "Bad Times" and "Movin' on Down" as pessimistic sequels to "Good Times" and "The Jeffersons".
You could also do an update of the Mod Squad, CSI style- "The Mod (Dead) Bod Squad".
How about "BJ and the Bear Market" and/or "Down and Out with the Beverly Hillbillies"?
Or a guy trying too hard to stick with a diet who turns green while trying to eat "The Inedible Bulk?"
Lots of good ideas (and some not so good) from TV's past waiting to be recycled...
LOL :)

Its a mistake

What no one at the CW can come up with any
new original programming that we have not seen before? No wonder no one watches that network. I can hear the crickets chirping.......

How do you spin off a spin off??
I don't know but it really only makes sense to spin off BRENDA, KELLY, and MR MATTHEWS, and any other 90210 alum that would want to sign on! I think it be great. LUKE would HAVE to come back to be with Brenda and of course there'd be friction but Kelly would get over it and move on with Ryan since Brenda already said her brother Brandon had a family. Donna would fit it nicely as well and who knows Brenda could be renting from Amanda aka Heather Locklear. Anyone else think this the ONLY way to spin off a spin off all while going back to a classic??
