BET Names Jones, Hill to Top Programming Posts

BET named new two presidents to run its programming operations.

Former MTV executive Loretha Jones joins BET as president of programming. She will be responsible for original programming, news development, planning and acquisition.

The Viacom-owned cable network promoted Stephen Hill, who will also have the title president of programming. Mr. Hill, who had been acting as programming chief since the departure of Reginald Hudlin in September, continues to be responsible for music programming and specials.

“Loretha has spent her entire career working in the entertainment industry and has a wealth of experience—not to mention a strong passion for the BET brand, fantastic energy, ground-breaking ideas, and strong industry relationships,” BET CEO Debra Lee said in a statement. “Stephen has done an incredible job during his tenure at BET Networks, thanks to his unparalleled creativity, his remarkable ability to produce unforgettable, buzzworthy shows, and his knack for knowing the ‘next big thing.’"

Ms. Jones will be based in Los Angeles. Mr. Hill will continue to be based in New York. Both report directly to Ms. Lee.

Ms. Jones had been executive VP of MTV Films/Paramount Pictures.
