Netflix to Stream Video to LG’s Hi-Def TV Sets

As it continues to expand its movie rental service to new devices, Netflix inked a deal with LG Electronics to stream Netflix videos on LG’s high-definition television sets, the companies announced today.

Under the deal, consumers will be able to watch Netflix titles streamed via the Internet on an LG set.

The partnership follows a string of deals Netflix has made in the last year with device makers such as Roku and Xbox to stream movies and TV shows through various devices to the TV set itself. That’s a more immediate way to access the Netflix library than waiting to receive a DVD in the mail.

The deal with LG marks the first time the Netflix service will be embedded in the TV set itself.

Netflix offers about 12,000 movies and TV shows to watch instantly over the Internet as part of most Netflix subscription plans.
