‘Sonny’ Lights Up Sunday for Disney Channel

Disney Channel’s new series “Sonny With a Chance” gave the network its best Sunday-night performance in three months.

“Sonny,” with teen star Demi Lovato, premiered with back-to-back episodes Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. Both episodes came in as the top two telecasts among viewers 6-11 and 9-14 and as the most watched on cable TV for the night.

At 8 p.m. “Sonny” drew 4.1 million total viewers, followed by 4 million at 8:30 p.m. From half-hour to half-hour, the show retained 100% of its viewers 6-11 and increased 7% among ages 9-14.

For the week of Feb. 2, the show came in as the No. 1 series among viewers 6-11 with a 7.4 rating in the demo (1.8 million viewers) and the top scripted series among tweens 9-14 with a 6.4 rating (1.6 million). Disney Channel was the top network among viewers 6-11 for the 201st consecutive week, and the top network among viewers 9-14 for the 197th straight week.
