MLB Network Sets Thursday Night Baseball Lineup

The MLB Network has set its Thursday night baseball schedule for April and May, starting with its first regular-season game April 9 when the Milwaukee Brewers visit the San Francisco Giants.

On April 16, when the cable channel airs the first regular-season game to be played in the Yankees’ new stadium, Bob Costas will make his play-by-play debut for the network. He’ll be joined by Harold Reynolds and Jim Kaat, who also is making his MLB network debut.

Mr. Costas’ last baseball broadcast was Oct. 17, 2000, from the old Yankee Stadium during NBC’s coverage of the American League Championship Series.

Mr. Costas also will call the May 7 game between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets at the new home of the Mets, Citi Field.

MLB Network will offer 16 different clubs in its first eight live regular-season games, with broadcast teams including play-by-play by Matt Vasgersian and Victor Rojas, with analysis by Al Leiter, Joe Magrane and Dan Plesac.

Also on the schedule are the Boston Red Sox at the Tampa Bay Rays (April 30) and the Chicago Cubs at the St. Louis Cardinals (May 21).

Games will be blacked out in each team's home TV territory, with viewers in those areas provided with an alternate game or other programming.

“It’s important for MLB Network right from the start to establish a national footprint with live games, and we’ve done that with this Thursday night package to complement our ambitious nightly studio show, ‘MLB Tonight,’” Tony Petitti, president-CEO of MLB Network, said in a statement.
