There was a very popular show (among many friends and others) called 'Big Shots" that did not return after the writers strike last year. Many people are going thru withdrawal waiting for this show to return. It remains active on my TiVo list (just in case it returns) so I won't miss an episode. All my sorority sisters (now professional women and doing very well in their respective fields were all gluded to the TV set when ever show aired and did not miss an episode. Nia Long was sensational, very professional and represented the lives and life styles of many professional women of color (similar to Michele Obama). The writing for her character was current, smart and timely at a time when many women of color are achieving career goals, and exploring non-traditional romantic relationships being exposed to men of higher intellect, more goal oriented and progressively her equal in the workplace. These options are long overdue and this show gave women of color a glimpse into the possibilities of more serious loving relationships without fear, apprehension or guilt. Men of Color have long moved on and are fully exploring their romantic partner options.Women of Color have been made to feel guilty for looking over the fence. This is a taboo that is not only unfair but must be disavowed by the public. The media has always led the way by exposing America to cross cultural intermingling and has opened this door for Men of Color and White women. Now the same door should be opened for women of color and men of other races and classes. Bravo for forward thinking writers on 'Big Shots' who recognized this changing trend and moved forward with it. It helped to make Women of Color wishing to explore non traditional relationships the opportunity to be seen as beautiful, smart, professional women with serious relationship potential as equal partners in relationships.
