Comedy Central signed a multi-year, multi-platform deal with Levity Entertainment for a series of stand-up specials by comedians including Christopher Titus, Gabriel Iglesias, Pablo Francisco, Jim Breuer, Mitch Fatel and Pete Correale.
The specials featuring those six comics will air on Comedy Central in 2009, then be released on DVDs to be distributed by Comedy Central Home Entertainment.
Six more specials will be shot in 2009 and air in 2010, including one from Jeff Dunham. Mr. Dunham drew a record setting 6.6 million viewers when his “Very Special Christmas Special” appeared on Comedy Central last year.
“Comedy Central has been in business with Levity for several years and we are thrilled to be taking our relationship to the next level with this output deal and the opportunity to release many of the specials on DVD,” David Bernath, senior VP, programming for the network, said in a statement.
Levity also praised its partner.
“Comedy Central is the premiere stand-up comedy network and we’ve shared a lot of success together,” Stu Schreiberg, a senior partner at Levity Entertainment, said in a statement. “We are very excited about extending our partnership that will allow us to accelerate development of comedians across all platforms.”
