Univision’s L.A., N.Y. 6 p.m. News Tops Competition

Univision’s local newscasts in Los Angeles and New York were the top two local early evening newscasts among total adults 18-49 during the first quarter, according to Nielsen Station Index.
KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles, which ranked first, and WXTV Univision 41 in New York beat out English-language 6 p.m. newscasts on ABC affiliates in New York, Atlanta and Philadelphia. New York’s WABC 7 came in third, followed by Atlanta’s WSB 2 and Philadelphia’s WPVI 6.
KMEX in Los Angeles garnered 166,000 adults 18-49 for its 6 p.m. local news, beating the market’s No. 2 newscast on KABC-TV by 68,000 viewers. The station also attracted more adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 than any other Los Angeles area local stations during March sweeps.
WXTV in New York’s 6 p.m. newscast attracted 140,000 adults 18-49.
“For more than 40 years, we have been committed to providing our viewers with information and resources that have a direct impact on their lives, making us vital to the Hispanic community in the U.S.,” Joanne Lynch, president of the Univision and TeleFutura Station Group, said in a statement. “These superior viewership results once again prove that Hispanic America turns to Univision for information they need in the language that speaks to them.”
