Hot List: Rina Mimoun
Name: Rina Mimoun
Title: Consulting producer, "Eastwick"
Big Break: Working on “Dawson’s Creek.”
Who knew? She once admitted on her Twitter feed that she’s “obsessed” with Entertainment Weekly’s “Ausiello Files” feature.
In the past decade, Rina Mimoun has carved out a niche as a go-to writer for what might be called the “quality soaps” genre.
She’s worked on a slew of teen-targeted dramas known for rising above the cliches of the category: “Gilmore Girls,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “Everwood,” “Jack & Jill.” Most recently, Ms. Mimoun rose to the ranks of showrunner, exec-producing the CW drama “Privileged.”
Despite good reviews and a solid fan base, the show didn’t make the cut for a second season. But with a rich overall deal at Warner Bros. TV, it won’t be long before Ms. Mimoun is at work on another series. (She's already on board WBTV's new ABC drama, "Eastwick," as a consulting producer).
“She is definitely capable of being amongst the most powerful, successful and dynamic showrunners in television,” said Warner Bros. TV chief Peter Roth.
Indeed, while “Privileged” won’t be back, there’s already evidence the show will have a legacy beyond its brief life. This week, the CW confirmed that JoAnna Garcia, one of the young stars of Ms. Mimoun’s series, would be joining the cast of “Gossip Girl" for at least four episodes.
Ms. Mimoun’s passion for TV goes well beyond her own projects.
“I love television. That’s why I’m in it,” she told website Buzzsugar last year. “My TiVo is always full. I love ’30 Rock’ and I love ‘The Office’ and comedies have always gotten me.”
Ms. Mimoun has also learned to mine her personal life for story ideas.
“I’ve had enough bad date stories literally for ten series’ worth of material,” she told Buddy TV recently. “So that’s always helpful.”
