The setup: It was bound to happen: An Olympics video was sure to shoot up the charts on YouTube last week. And an Olympics video did. But one of the most popular Olympics clips on YouTube didn’t feature Michael Phelps, Chinese gymnasts or digitally enhanced fireworks. In the so-called “Candidate Girl” Olympics last week, Obama Girl faced off against McCain Girl in the shotput event, representing how far each presidential candidate could toss illegal immigrants out of the country, as well as the tug-of-war, to see how far each can sway undecided voters.

The source: The video was created by the Web channel Barely Political, a network in the Next New Networks portfolio.

The hits: The video landed on YouTube Aug. 7 and had earned 484,000 views by Aug. 14. Part two in the series earned 432,000 views in about the same time period.
