Three dramas with unusual premises are receiving series orders from NBC, as the network seeks to revamp its prime-time lineup, reports Bill Carter in The New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.
"Playboy" is an hour-long show that tracks the lives of workers and patrons at a Playboy club in 1960s Chicago, during a period considered the heyday of the clubs. The show has been compared to “Mad Men.”
"Grimm" is a cop show with a science-fiction edge, as the detective finds out he’s a "grimm," or someone who can see evil-doers with strange, alternate faces.
"Awake" is about a police officer who lives in two realities: one in which his wife has died and another in which his son has died.
