Florida Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the state’s $4.8 million appropriation for public broadcasting, a figure that had already been cut by 30% from last year’s amount, reports Elizabeth Jensen in The New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

That means each of the state’s 13 public TV stations will lose a subsidy of $434,837, while public radio stations will lose $87,287 in public funding, the story notes.

"For a small station it might be catastrophic," said WPBT-TV president Rick Schneider, whose station is based in Miami. He predicted that some stations would look to layoffs and some might even be forced to shut down.
