While online advertising continues to rise, the gap between basic search ads and flashier display spots continues to widen, the Wall Street Journal reports. Online firms are spending more money developing the more complicated ads, but plain text ads are still considered the safest method of reaching customers directly, the newspaper says. The trend benefits Google versus Microsoft and Yahoo.
