CBS’s “CSI: Miami” was the highest-rated show Monday in total viewers and in the adults 18 to 49 demographic, leading CBS to a win for the night in viewers, but even the “CSI” franchise couldn’t take an adults 18 to 49 win for the night from ABC.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the season premiere of “CSI: Miami” scored an 8.1 rating and 20 share in adults 18 to 49, up 37 percent over last season’s premiere. “CSI: Miami” brought in 22.45 million viewers, compared with “NFL Monday Night Football’s” 18.81 million viewers.

As a whole CBS’s Monday night comedy block from 8-10 p.m. (ET) dropped about 10 percent from last season. The Jason Alexander comedy “Listen Up” premiered at 8:30 p.m. with a 3.6/10 in the adults 18 to 49 demo, down 14 percent from the season premiere of “Still Standing” in the time period last year but up 13 percent over its 8 p.m. (ET) “Still Standing” lead-in this year. The comedy tentpole of the night was “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which came in with a 5.9/15 in the demo and a total of 17.99 million viewers.

“CSI: Miami” clearly took a chunk out of “LAX,” which scored a 3.1/8 in adults 18 to 49, down 38 percent from last week’s premiere. “LAX” brought in 7.93 million viewers, down 39 percent from last week’s 13.02 million.

UPN’s new 9:30 p.m. comedy “Second Time Around” scored a 1.3/3 in the demo, down 32 percent from the premiere of “Half & Half” last season. All four of UPN’s Monday block were down in adults 18 to 49 from their year-ago premieres.

ABC’s “The Benefactor” came in at a 1.8/6 in adults 18 to 49, down 22 percent from last week’s 2.3/7. ABC still won the night in adults 18 to 49 with a 5.8/16. CBS was second with a 5.7/15 and NBC was third with a 4.0/11. The WB’s “7th Heaven” and “Everwood” lineup edged out Fox’s “North Shore” and “Renovate My Family,” 2.3/6 versus 2.1/6. UPN came in sixth with a 1.3/4.

In total viewers, CBS came in first with 17.04 million, followed by ABC with 14.01 million. NBC was third with 9.97 million, Fox was fourth with 4.59 million, The WB was fifth with 6.11 million and UPN rounded out the night with 3.30 million.
