NCAA Final a Slam-Dunk for CBS

The NCAA Basketball Tournament championship game gave CBS a firm Monday night victory, while Fox’s “24” and ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” slid from previous weeks.

CBS started the evening with a couple of repeats, followed by the big game between Ohio State and Florida (a 6.2 rating among adults 18 to 49 and a 10.6 household rating, according to preliminary Nielsen figures).

The NCAA Championship seemed to drain ratings from competitors across the board, as it did last week.

ABC was second with an extended “Dancing” (4.5/11.4) and the premiere of “The Bachelor” (3.9/7.0). Since preliminary ratings are based on time periods, and “Dancing” ran to 9:45 and was immediately followed by “The Bachelor,” the figures likely will shift in the nationals. As is, the figures give “Bachelor” a strong increase from last fall’s premiere, while “Dancing” is off about 26 percent from its previous Monday average.

Either way, ABC should win the night in total viewers.

Fox was third with the season finale of “Prison Break” (3.4 in 18 to 49, 5.0 in households), its worst performance since October. “24” (4.3/6.7) had its worst Monday rating ever.

NBC was fourth with “Deal or No Deal” (3.2/7.1), its worst Monday performance to date, followed by a repeat and then a new season low for “The Black Donnellys” (2.0/3.7).

The CW had repeats of its comedy block, which averaged a 0.8.
