A project that has been in development at AMC has lost its director. Reporting on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that director David Mackenzie exited the pilot "Galyntine" over creative differences.

He will be replaced by Greg Nicotero, the pilot’s executive producer, who also pitched the idea as part of his first-look deal with the network. The project is described as a “fantasy-action adventure with hints of sci-fi,” set in a future without technology.

Andreeva reports: “Nicotero making his pilot directing debut with ‘Galyntine’ marks the next step in the evolution of AMC’s relationship with the special effects makeup guru who has designed all zombies on the network’s flagship series ‘The Walking Dead.’”

Since AMC’s first-look deal with Nicotero, he has directed seven episodes of “The Walking Dead” and will direct four more next season, including the fifth-season premiere.

Mackenzie, a Scottish director, has directed movies such as “Starred Up” and “Young Adam.”
