WNBC-TV’s coverage of US Airways Flight 1549’s ditch into the Hudson was marred by technical glitches that had the station apologizing to viewers, the New York Daily News reports. One reporter was supposed to lead into an interview with a survivor, but instead a map appeared on air, while another reporter led into a video package but the station reran some footage from the show’s opening. WNBC lost in ratings to WABC-TV for its plane coverage, with WNBC drawing an average of 580,000 viewers at 11 p.m. compared with 819,000 for WABC.
