ABC News’ Diane Sawyer is focusing on her home region, Appalachia, in a special airing Friday called “Hidden America: Children of the Mountains,” the New York Daily News reports. A Kentucky native, Sawyer tells the paper she’s familiar with the area, and its problems, such as unemployment, lack of health care and poor dental health, have stuck with her.
