ABC Family has a new documentary program in the pipeline from Ryan Seacrest Productions called “My Transparent Life” that will track a teenage boy named Ben as his father transitions from male to female, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.

The project comes amid recent interest in transgender themes in TV programming, which have been handled on shows including “Transparent” and “Orange Is the New Black.”

The ABC Family program, which doesn’t have a debut date, will look at how both generations of the family are dealing with the father’s transition from Charlie to Carly.

In a statement about the project, Tom Ascheim, president of ABC Family, said: “While Ben’s family situation is unusual, the themes and coming-of-age issues are universal, and we think our viewers will find a real connection to them.”
