HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” one of the biggest shows of recent seasons, is getting even bigger. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Sunday’s season five opener set a series high, averaging just under 8 million viewers.
The program reportedly added 1.4 million viewers from its 2014 premiere, based on same-day figures. It was up a hefty 800,000 from the previous series high, set May 18, 2014.
“‘Game of Thrones” ratings have been on the rise consistently since its 2011 premiere — and last summer it became the most-watched series in HBO history, nabbing 18.4 million gross weekly viewers,” THR notes. The aggregate figure includes DVR viewing along with HBO Go, On Demand and encores.
