Sunday’s Critics’ Choice Awards — which for the first time combined the television honors and the feature film awards into a single ceremony — fueled the momentum of awards season in both media.
On the TV side the ceremony was marked by the coronation of USA’s “Mr. Robot” as Best Drama Series, with actors Rami Malek and Christian Slater also honored for their work on the show.
Among the feature films, while Oscar contender “Spotlight” won Best Picture, it was a dominant night for another Oscar nominee, “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Nominated for 10 Critics’ Choice Awards, “Mad Max” won nine trophies Sunday, including best action movie, best director for George Miller, and acting awards for Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.
