ABC News is so close to finalizing a deal to have CNN’s longtime foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour become the anchor of the Sunday “This Week,” that an announcement about the deal could be released as soon as today, Thursday, March 19 , the New York Times reports.

Amanpour earlier in the week had been described as being 50-50 on whether to take the job.

Says the Times’ report, "One concern raised by at least one of these contacts has been that she is not primarily known for reporting on Washington or American politics. But one ABC News staff member said that Ms. Amanpour had been convinced that she could make the switch from international to political reporting."
