Can We Stop Talking? No More Red Carpets for Mother-Daughter Team

Jan 7, 2011  •  Post A Comment

Joan Rivers and daughter Melissa Rivers say they’re through covering red carpet arrivals at awards shows, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Among the reasons they cite: Publicists have become too uptight about the insults that have been the mother-daughter team’s bread-and-butter for years.

“It took all the fun out of it,” Melissa Rivers said.

Appearing this morning at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif., Joan Rivers added: “When we were doing it, you could tell Julia Roberts, ‘I hate your dress.’” Now, however, such a comment might result in being shut out from further access, the comedian said.

Also mentioned as a factor that took some of the fun out of it for the duo: The arrival of Lisa Rinna in 2007 as a replacement for Joan and Melissa as red carpet host for TV Guide Network.
