"Law & Order: Los Angeles" creator Dick Wolf is overseeing a creative overhaul of the show, and one of the key changes he will implement is the transformation of Alfred Molina’s character, Deputy D.A. Ricardo Morales, into a detective, reports Deadline.com.

As previously reported, Skeet Ulrich, who plays Detective Rex Winters and was the first actor to be cast on the program, is leaving the show as part of the revamp.

According to Deadline.com, the show will reveal that Molina’s character served on the LAPD for 15 years and reached the rank of detective. He’ll decide to return to the police force as a detective after growing frustrated as a prosecutor, the article notes.

Ulrich’s last appearance on the show is slated for its 14th episode, the story notes. The show is currently filming its 12th episode and will return with original shows in February, the story adds.
